visd western art show

On Saturday, January 7, the Victoria ISD Fine Arts Center will host the VISD Western Art Show. The show will be open to the public on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. There will be over 400 pieces of art from students in grades K-12.

The show will be comprised of artworks that entered the San Antonio Western Art Show in December as well as pieces that are currently being entered into the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) School Art Competition.

When the judges have selected the top 25 works of art from high school students, 10 from middle school students, and 10 from elementary school, those are considered finalists and will travel to Houston for the next level of judging on January 9. While there, the judges will award the Best of Show, Gold Medalists and Special Merit pieces for VISD. These top pieces will then go through yet another and final round of judging along with all of the other districts that are competing in the HLSR School Art Competition for a chance at becoming eligible for auction. Only the top percentage will earn a place in the auction and will be eligible to receive a cash premium for their artwork.

Artworks that received blue ribbons at our local show will remain on display at the Fine Arts Center for the month of January. The artworks judged as Best of Show, Gold Medalists, and Special Merit pieces for the district will remain in Houston on display in the Hayloft Gallery at the NRG Center. Finalists that return to Victoria on January 9th will be displayed at the Administration Building, 102 Profit Dr., through the month of February.

Join us at the VISD Western Art Show to celebrate the hard work and artistry of these talented students!
