On Wednesday, November 16, the Victoria ISD Child Nutrition Department will offer a Thanksgiving meal for students and their families at VISD’s elementary schools following a student only Thanksgiving meal last school year due to COVID.
The Child Nutrition Department starts preparing for this yearly meal at least a month in advance by obtaining ingredients and trying out different recipes to perfect their pumpkin pie.
“We’re very excited,” said VISD Director of Child Nutrition Dana Bigham. “Last year, because of COVID, the meal was just for the kids. This year it’s back to normal and we are able to include VISD families again. We are expecting a couple thousand guests.”
This year's meal, like years prior, will consist of turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, pumpkin pie, and fresh fruit salad. There will also be tea for the adults.
Parents, guardians, and family members were able to purchase tickets in their chosen elementary school’s office or cafeteria for $6 until Thursday, November 10.
We are so excited to have our families back on campus for this yearly tradition and cannot wait to see our students, parents/guardians, and other family members enjoy this delicious meal served up by our child nutrition department.
