More Victoria ISD students are getting a head start on college through dual credit courses, with participation increasing significantly during the 2026โ€“27 school year through the districtโ€™s partnership with Victoria College.

Dual credit enrollment across Victoria East and Victoria West high schools increased from 385 students in fall 2025 to 672 students in fall 2026, representing an increase of approximately 75% in just one year.

The number of dual credit course seats also increased from 693 to 1,097. Because students may enroll in more than one dual credit course, the seat count reflects the total number of dual credit course enrollments across the district.

Through VISDโ€™s partnership with Victoria College, students have expanded access to college-level coursework while still in high school, allowing them to earn both high school and college credit and make progress toward their postsecondary goals.

โ€œExpanding dual credit opportunities gives our students more options to begin building their futures while they are still in high school,โ€ said LaDonna Fory, VISD Director of P-TECH and College Readiness. โ€œThrough our partnership with Victoria College, more students are able to experience college-level coursework, earn college credit and see themselves as capable of succeeding beyond high school. We are excited to see more students and families taking advantage of these opportunities.โ€

At Victoria East High School, the number of students enrolled in dual credit increased from 191 in fall 2025 to 322 in fall 2026. Dual credit course seats increased from 308 to 499 during the same period.

Victoria West High School saw similar growth, with student participation increasing from 194 students in fall 2025 to 350 students in fall 2026. Dual credit course seats increased from 385 to 598.

The continued growth reflects VISDโ€™s focus on providing students with meaningful opportunities to prepare for life after graduation. By completing college coursework while in high school, students can experience the expectations of college-level classes, explore academic pathways and potentially reduce the amount of time and cost required to complete a college credential or degree.

VISD is continuing its commitment to expanding college and career opportunities by helping more students and families learn about dual credit options available for the 2027โ€“28 school year.

The district is hosting a series of Dual Credit Parent Information Sessions this fall ahead of course selection. The sessions provide students and families an opportunity to learn about available dual credit courses, understand eligibility and enrollment requirements, and make informed decisions before selecting courses.

A parent or guardian must attend one Dual Credit Parent Information Session before a student may enroll in Victoria College for dual credit. Families may attend any one of the remaining sessions:

  • October 14, 2026 โ€“ Victoria West High School

  • November 12, 2026 โ€“ Victoria West High School

Both sessions begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Victoria West High School auditorium.

The first information session was held Sept. 22 at Victoria East High School.

Through continued collaboration with Victoria College, VISD is working to ensure more students have access to rigorous coursework and opportunities that prepare them for college, career and future success.
